Moon And Madison® is a modern women’s knitwear and apparel brand specializing in effortlessly chic sweaters, cardigans, tanks, and clothing. Founded in 2018 and based in Los Angeles, our goal is to design timeless knit pieces made from luxurious fabrics that transition seamlessly from season to season.
Our Story
Moon And Madison® was born out of a desire to fill a void in the knitwear market. The founders, two sisters named Madison and Luna, grew up with a shared love of fashion and knitting. They were always on the hunt for the perfect cardigan or sweater – something classic yet modern, comfy yet put-together.
The search often left them empty-handed. Department stores carried basics on repeat, while high fashion brands charged exorbitant prices for knits that weren’t wearable enough for everyday life. Madison and Luna envisioned beautiful knit pieces made from luxe, innovative fabrics that could be dressed up or down. Pieces that were fashion-forward yet timeless silhouettes designed to last beyond one season.
So in 2018, after years of dreaming up their ideal knitwear line, the sisters finally took the leap and launched Moon And Madison®. They poured their hearts into designing that first collection – a line of sumptuous cardigans, pullovers, tanks, and tunics made from a variety of luscious yarns and knits.
The response was overwhelmingly positive, affirming that they had struck a chord in the market. Women were drawn to the marriage of everyday wearability and subtle luxuriousness that Moon And Madison® pieces exuded. The line offered sophisticated knits in classic silhouettes – cardigans, wrap sweaters, swing tunics – modernized through Sixties or Seventies inspired prints, updated with interesting details like bell sleeves, side slits, or ribbed hems.
Each Moon And Madison style manages to feel novel yet timeless. As the brand grew from that first collection into a full knitwear and apparel line, Madison and Luna stayed true to their initial vision: creating effortlessly chic knit pieces made from luxe, innovative fabrics designed to elevate your everyday wardrobe.
Our Design Philosophy
The Moon And Madison® design philosophy balances timeless elegance with fashion-forward details. We blend everyday wearability with luxurious fabrics and contemporary touches. Our goal is to design knits and apparel that make women look and feel their best whether they are headed to brunch or the boardroom.
We believe that knitwear should be versatile. Our cardigans, sweaters, tanks, and tunics seamlessly transition from season to season and occasion to occasion. You can wear our knits to the office layered over a blouse or dress them down for the weekend with jeans. Made from luxe natural fibers like merino wool, alpaca, linen, and cotton, our knits keep you cozy and comfortable year-round.
We believe knits should feel special. Our unique fabrics like bouclé, alpaca fleece, donegal tweed, and melange exude luxury and sophistication. We finish our garments with special details like external seaming, ribbed hems, side vents, gold buttons, and decorative stitching for added texture and depth.
We believe in updating classics. We take traditional knitwear silhouettes like wrap cardigans, crewneck pullovers, and swing tunics, then modernize them through contemporary prints, on-trend colors, interesting textures, and updated styling like bell sleeves, hi-lo hems, and open-knit details. The result is timeless pieces with a modern twist.
We believe knitwear should be responsibly made. We partner with small knitwear studios that share our values around ethical production. Many of our natural fibers are sourced sustainably. When possible, we utilize eco-friendly dyes and factories that conserve resources like water and energy.
Our Fabrics & Materials
One of the hallmarks of Moon And Madison® is our luxurious knits and specialty fabrics. We use only the highest quality natural fibers and yarns to create our garments. Here are a few we love:
- Alpaca Fleece – Known for its soft, lightweight warmth, alpaca is hypoallergenic with thermal properties that provide insulation. We love working with alpaca for its silky texture and durability.
- Merino Wool – Revered for its softness, temperature regulation and resistance to odor, merino wool is one of the finest wools available. We use extra-fine merino for an ultra-luxe feel.
- Organic Cotton – Organically farmed cotton is gentler on the environment than conventional cotton. We blend organic cotton with other fibers to create soft, breathable knits.
- Linen – One of the oldest natural fabrics, linen is known for its exceptional coolness and moisture-wicking abilities. Our linen knits are lightweight, breezy and perfect for summer.
- Alpaca/Wool Blends – By blending alpaca and wool, we create a knit that is warm yet breathable with beautiful drape and sheen. An alpaca/wool blend combines the best qualities of both fibers.
- Bouclé – This loopy, textured yarn adds flavor and visual interest to our knits. Bouclé has a lightly nubby feel that flatters all figures. We use it to create dimensional cardigans and pullovers.
- Donegal Tweed – Donegal is a thick, flecked woolen tweed woven in Ireland. It has beautiful color variations that give our knits added depth and texture.
We are continually exploring innovative new knits and yarns from around the world. You’ll also find novelty knits, melange, lambswool, cashmere blends, and recycled fibers like REPREVE® in our collections. The variety of textures keeps our designs exciting and fresh.
Our Design Process
Our in-house design team approaches each new collection thoughtfully. Every style begins as a sketch that is reworked and perfected before becoming a finished garment. Here’s a look inside our design process:
- Inspiration – We pull visual references from the fashion runways, art, nature, textiles, architecture and cultural trends. These influences inform the colors, patterns, silhouettes and styling details for the season.
- Fabric Sourcing – Next we source the most luxurious and interesting knits for the collection. We love seeking out innovative fabrics not widely used in knitwear. The fabrics ultimately shape the personality of each garment.
- Sketching – Our designers begin sketching the collection by hand, focusing on silhouette, construction details, fabric suitability and visual impact. We sketch anywhere from 50-100 styles before narrowing it down.
- Fitting & Samples – We create a sample of each style on a fit model to perfect the drape, shape, and measurements. We make adjustments to the patterns before approving samples for production.
- Catalog Shoot – The final designs are photographed to create the collection catalog. This is our chance to style the knits and capture the lifestyle and essence of the brand.
- Production – Once the samples are approved, we shift into production, working closely with our knitwear partners to maintain our standards of quality. Each piece is handled with care from start to finish.

Moon And Madison® is a female-founded and led brand. Our team brings diverse skills and fresh perspectives while sharing a passion for beautiful design. Get to know our key players:
- Madison Clark, Co-Founder and Creative Director – Madison oversees design and product development, steering the brand’s creative vision. She has a background in fashion design and textile arts. Madison explores new knitwear techniques and fabrics each season to keep our collections feeling modern.
- Luna Finley, Co-Founder and Brand Director – As brand director, Luna focuses on branding, marketing and business strategy. She has an MBA and background in luxury branding. Luna connects with our community and ensures we stay true to our core values.
- Eva James, Lead Designer – Eva brings over a decade of knitwear design experience to her role as lead designer. She sketches new concepts, creates tech packs for production, and develops custom knit techniques. Eva’s expertise ensures our garments have beautiful fit and detail.
- Sophie Alder, Production Manager – With a keen eye for quality control, Sophie oversees our production partners and manufacturing. She works diligently so that each garment meets our standards through every step of the process.
- Ruby Chen, Ecommerce Manager – Ruby heads up our online store operations and digital marketing initiatives. She strives to create the best possible shopping experience for our community of knitwear lovers.
